A Little Help Goes A Long Way In The Philippines

Solid Rock Baptist Church of Calgary recently held evangelistic meetings in six different parts of the Philippines. The meeting places included Tacloban which was devastated by Typhoon Hayian (Yolanda) in November of last year. The response to these meetings was very enthusiastic with about one hundred and fifty Filipino pastors from independent Baptist churches and many more persons in attendance. Seven preachers from the United States and Canada spoke at the Pastor’s School in Tagaytay (near Manila) to conclude the series of gospel meetings that were held in Bicol, Tacloban, Iloilo City, Baladjay (Antique) and Davao (Mindanao) over a five week period. Over seven hundred Filipinos came to this meeting and nearly fifty persons from Solid Rock Baptist Church in Calgary, Canada. Many lives were changed as a result of the strong preaching. Another Pastor’s School will be conducted in February 2015 to provide ongoing encouragement and help for the pastors and churches in the Philippines.

A significant outcome of Solid Rock’s outreach in the Philippines is the decision to buy land and build three youth camps; one in the Bicol region of southern Luzon, another in Antique in the western Visayas and a third in the area of Davao City, Mindanao. One of the preachers at the recent meetings, Evangelist Mark McGaughey, has started Tulong Ministries in order to raise funds through American and Canadian churches for churches in the Philippines. Tulong Minisrtries will be working through Solid Rock Baptist Church (Calgary) to procure the land and build the facilities for the three youth camps. Tulong Ministries is progressing well in raising funds. Other independent Baptist churches, including one in the Middle East, are also raising monies for the youth camps. Individual donors are also invited to participate in this project through which many young lives will be changed for the glory of God.

What is Tulong?

Tulong is a Tagalog word meaning, “help”. The purpose of this website is to assist in this ministry. The point of the Tulong ministry is to provide needed funds and support to help Bible Believing Filipino pastors reach their local community.

After spending 5 weeks over there Evangelist Mark McGaughey seeing many churches and ministries including the deadly effects of typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) felt impressed on letting the folks here in America know the need and opportunity to help [tulong]. All this came about starting several years ago under the burden of Pastor Jon Harwood and Solid Rock Baptist Church in Calgary Canada after starting an Old Fasioned Camp Meeting style pastors meeting. This meeting has brought as many as 145 pastors to Tagaytay, Philippines.

Meeting and becoming friends with these great preachers and their families have knit our hearts together in this great life we call the ministry. These men: Evangelist Terrance Calvin, Pastor Rick Drummond, Pastor Jim Chandler, Pastor Brandon Lake and Pastor Matt Keenan, have purposed together as any of you reading this would if you had seen what we’ve seen.

Please pray for us as we try to be good stewards of the funds and projects we will try to appropreate to the country of the Philippines. None of us need monthly support, we are beggars helping other beggars get bread. We will add things to this web site that will help you in your concern with the Philippines.

Thank you and God bless!

Current News

One of the many projects we are praying about is building youth camps in the Philippines. One of these camps is on the island of Panay in the Antique region.

We have been involved in youth camps for 30 years and know that camp changes lives and helps churches as much as anything I have seen in 24 years as an evangelist.

We have our sights on 15 acres of land up in the mountians close to San Remigio. We could buy this property and build the camp for around $40,000 USD which is almost unbelievable.

Pray for us on this endeavor and if you would like to give toward it let me know.
