A Little Help Goes A Long Way In The Philippines
Solid Rock Baptist Church of Calgary held evangelistic meetings in six different parts of the Philippines. The meeting places included Tacloban, which was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in November 2013. The response to these meetings was very enthusiastic, with about one hundred and fifty Filipino pastors from independent Baptist churches and many more persons in attendance. Seven preachers from the United States and Canada spoke at the Pastor’s School in Tagaytay (near Manila) to conclude the series of gospel meetings that were held in Bicol, Tacloban, Iloilo City, Baladjay (Antique), Dagupan and Davao (Mindanao) over a five-week period. Over seven hundred Filipinos came to this meeting, and nearly fifty persons from Solid Rock Baptist Church in Calgary, Canada. Many lives were changed as a result of the strong preaching. Another Pastor’s School will be conducted annually to encourage and help the pastors and churches in the Philippines.
A significant outcome of Solid Rock’s outreach in the Philippines is the decision to buy land and build three youth camps; one in the Bicol region of southern Luzon, another in Antique in the western Visayas and a third in the area of Davao City, Mindanao. One of the preachers at the recent meetings, Evangelist Mark McGaughey, has started Tulong Ministries to raise funds for churches in the Philippines through American and Canadian churches. Tulong Ministries will work through Solid Rock Baptist Church (Calgary) to procure the land and build the facilities for the three youth camps. Tulong Ministries is progressing well in raising funds. Other independent Baptist churches, including one in the Middle East, also raised money for the youth camps. Individual donors are also invited to participate in this project, through which many young lives will be changed for the glory of God.
